That is, once you are accepted, you’ll be placed in one of two tracks: beginner or intermediate.

Additionally, when filling out your profile on Udacity’s website, make sure to include any relevant awards you may have received along with any past research projects or extracurricular activities that relate to computer science. 

Finally, note that there is no application fee and finalists will be contacted by email within 10 days of their submission date.

What Being Selected Entails

To qualify for a Google Scholarship, one needs to fulfill the following criteria:

  1. The Scholarship is only open to individuals who are at least 18 years old at the time of application.
  2. In addition, applicants must be residents of any African jurisdiction from any country in Africa.
  3. An applicant must be enrolled in a full-time higher education program or recently graduated with a degree (no more than 4 years ago).
  4. An applicant must have demonstrated an active interest in technology, computer science, or mobile applications.
  5. An applicant must have a valid Gmail account at least 6 months old and be able to receive and reply to emails.
  6. An applicant must have a working computer and access to an Internet connection that can support a video-calling service.
  7. An applicant must be available to attend an in-person Bootcamp at any location of his or her choosing (subject to availability).
  8. An applicant must be willing to dedicate 10 hours per week, in addition to class time, for two months to completing his or her project and being mentored by expert developers from Africa and around the world.
  9. An applicant must have or be willing to create a YouTube channel and apply using that channel’s URL.
  10. An applicant must agree to abide by terms outlined in The Code of Conduct.

How Do I Qualify For The Google Udacity Scholarship?

Only those who are between 13 and 19 years old, residents of any of these African countries, and who attend a school in one of these nations qualify to apply. 

The top 10 winners will be awarded scholarships worth USD 10,000 that can be used toward tuition fees at any of the world’s best universities. 

One participant will also be given an all-expenses-paid trip to Silicon Valley for a tour of tech companies and an opportunity to meet with Google employees.

To apply for any of these scholarships, participants must first submit this form (provided by google) with all of their contact information so they can send them a private link to register for the webinar where they’ll find out more about eligibility requirements and next steps towards applying. 

It also states that individuals from the countries listed below may not be eligible: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. 

Applicants from Botswana are welcome to apply as long as they meet other criteria like having at least six months of professional experience within the last five years. 

For applicants from Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho Liberia Madagascar Malawi Mauritius Mozambique Namibia Niger Nigeria Rwanda São Tomé and Príncipe Senegal Seychelles Sierra Leone Somalia South Africa Sudan Swaziland Tanzania Uganda Zambia Zimbabwe.

There is no deadline for submitting applications; however only selected applicants will be contacted directly via email after the application period has ended. 

The applicant needs to be 18+ years old, provide proof of identity and nationality, have completed their secondary education, have work experience related to the field they’re applying for which equals 6 months over the past 5 years, and use a verified social media account when applying.

Those from developing countries without much work experience need not to worry as there are additional scholarships available for them too which cover accommodations, transportation costs.
