5 Things You Didn’t Know About the Rhodes Scholarship

5) When a student is selected, they don’t automatically get into Oxford University.

This is where many applicants, who assume they’re already in, make a costly mistake.

They don’t apply to Oxford University and waste their only chance to get in.

Just because you are selected as a finalist doesn’t mean you will be admitted.

Oxford University will evaluate your application and decide whether or not to accept you.

If they decide not to, then your Rhodes Scholarship application is over before it even began.

It’s important to read up on what the requirements are for getting into Oxford University. So far we’ve covered that:

  • You must have applied separately -You must live outside of a 50-mile radius of Oxford City
  • Your academic record needs to reflect that you can succeed at university-level work
  • Your statement needs to show more than just an understanding of any particular field of study -You need three references from professors or other educators at universities
  • You need an English language test score that meets our requirements – Remember that you must also meet our requirements for high school transcripts, TOEFL scores, extracurricular activities, leadership experience, etc.
  • If you’ve been told by someone who knows about applying to colleges and universities in England (or elsewhere) that this scholarship could go down easier than a local one remember this isn’t true. These scholarships are extremely competitive.

These are all important things to know and understand before you start your application.

If you aren’t sure about something, don’t assume that it’s covered in our FAQs or think it’s not important.

Remember, every detail counts when you’re trying to earn a place at one of these schools.

Make sure that all of your information is up-to-date and accurate so you can give yourself every chance of winning.

All admissions decisions are made through the centralized Oxford University Admissions Office, there is no guarantee of admission with a nomination to the US national selection process.

Conclusion

A non-refundable fee of £75 is required for each course offered by Oxford University; if an applicant is unsuccessful in gaining admission, the fee will be retained by Oxford University.

To gain entry to Oxford University, the student must submit two pieces of academic proof showing success at the equivalent standard expected of a British 18-year-old.

Students should be able to speak English fluently, students under 18 years old may still apply, but preference will always be given to those who are 18 years old or older.
